Spend time studying every day. The effort you put in your college career will reward you later in life. College is more than just party time. Excelling in college will reward you with a much beter career and additional earning power.

You should find out what grants and scholarships you can get. Lots of people aren’t aware of the fact that scholarships aren’t just for academic or athletic purposes. In fact, some scholarships exist just for people of a certain race. You may also be eligible for a number of grants which you will not have to pay back.

It is important to get plenty of sleep. During your college years, it’s tempting to stay up all night cramming for exams or partying, but rest is essential! If you don’t sleep enough, it will affect your mood and your performance and could ruin your experience of college.

On your first semester, make sure you take a minimum of one basic ed course so that you can get the class done. If you have to have the class for your requirements, get it over with so you can take classes you like down the line. Not only that, but do you really wish to be the lone senior surrounded by freshmen?

Pay off any credit card you have in full each month. This keeps you from paying interest. It is best to use a credit card only for emergencies. While it may be tempting to pull it out for entertainment purposes, remember that your primary goal at college is to learn. Having to deal with money problems is not helpful.

Buy your textbooks second-hand. The cost of new books is high. When you don’t have much left after tuition, you have to stick to a budget. Check out bookstores and online book sellers for used textbooks. You’ll save more when you purchase used books.

Create and maintain positive, healthy relationships with professors. Your professors are a tremendous resource and can help you greatly. Be sure to help if the opportunity presents itself and ask a lot of questions. Your grades and the opportunities you are offered will be better if you take the time to build good relationships with your professors.

Go for classes that make you think, rather than easy grade classes. It is beneficial to challenge yourself. You learn more from harder classes and you make more ambitious friends.

Don’t think that being cool in high school has anything to do with college. Even if you were a straight A student in high school, or a star athlete, college will be a totally different world where no one will care about that. Try new things and push yourself to succeed.

College is an experience that you should enjoy. The information you gain will affect your career, your personality and your experience and friendships. By taking what you learned here, you will have a fabulous experience in college.
